It is the belief of the principals at Management Cornerstones that
a key to the long-term success of a nonprofit organization is a
diversified, well-trained and talented Board of Directors. For over
20 years, Management Cornerstones has dedicated a significant percentage
of professional resources toward developing its clients' Boards
of Directors.
Consulted
with almost 3000 nonprofit organizations; most of these contracts
involved working with Boards, committees and ancillary bodies as
well as staff. The principals have also chaired several Boards,
served as committee members, and coordinated numerous special projects
for nonprofits.
Produced
more than 100 reference tools and handouts related to nonprofit
Boards encompassing all aspects of Board governance and development.
A few of the topics include: recruitment, composition analysis,
types of Boards, roles, responsibilities, liabilities, officer position
descriptions, committee commissions, setting policy, evaluation,
role in planning, role in fundraising, effective committees, working
with staff, and evaluating the executive.
Designed
a year-long Board Consultant Institute to train consultants
in the area of Board development; Mentored five of the participants
for a year.
Published
a booklet on "Board Orientation" for the Illinois
Arts Council and distributed 10,000 copies to arts organizations
throughout Illinois.
Wrote articles
on Board-related topics published by the Donors Forum of Chicago
and several other organizations.
Design model
corporate and Board structures for several national organizations
with local chapters, i.e. Soccer in Streets, Society for Adolescent
Medicine, as well as for thousands of organizations throughout the
Midwest.
